Ancestors
A child am I
of many parents,
stacking predecessors
in and on my head,
carrying them along
as penates, fetish,
burden sometimes,
in hope of reluctant
blessing.
Most of them are
strange and far to me.
In my memory I go back,
cherishing signs, crossing
borders, asking birds,
defeating shadows, angry
at elapsed time, raging
emptiness beyond to an
uncertain destination.
